I've always been inspired by this young man and his dog. My heart is broken to learn that she died this morning. This is what my friend said: "Seth's service dog, Ellie, was hit by a car late last night and died early this morning from extensive internal and external injuries. Our heart aches for Seth and our family. No 22 year old college kid should have to make the decisions he just had to make. We are so grateful for his friends that helped him last night. We will miss her so much. She was a world traveler, Luke's best friend, a steal your food when you aren't looking kind of gal, even a few months shy of graduating college, and just over all fantastic seeing eye dog. If there is a doggie heaven then I know she is receiving some amazing angel wings for the outstanding work she did keeping our Sethy safe from harm. RIP Ellie. we love you".
Please keep Seth in your prayers. Few of us ever know what it is like to truly depend on another. For many years she gave him a great life. He should never have to have been put in the position to have to end hers. This was truly a tragic accident. Please pray for his healing and that of his family. God bless all his friends who will help him through this.

So funny! My husband's been out of town for a while. Usually when he gets home from work and takes off his boots and socks Bradley will roll around on his dirty socks. Today he threw took his laundry out of the suitcase and threw it on the floor. Bradley rolled in all of it. You can see him occasionally pick up a sock and move it for better positioning. At one point, Brodie even uses a squeaky toy to lure him away to play, but he's having none of it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRADLEY! You're technically no longer a puppy although you still act like one and are still growing. He and little-big brother Brodie got new matching collars. Bradley is so proud to show his off while Brodie obviously thinks it's yet another yoke of his oppressed life.

Bradley is now two years old and 85 pounds. He seems to still be growing. Brodie is now 5 years old and holding his steady 55 pounds. He has been very healthy on his new medicine. Although he did get pretty sick over the Fourth of July holiday. We're not sure what happened or if he got into something. It was probably associated with his food allergies. He quit eating and wouldn't take his medicine. He had a fever and was just plain pitiful. Through the night that it was really bad I had decided to take him to the vet in the morning and sure enough by morning he was getting better. So we slowly worked him back onto his food. He was probably just looking for an excuse to sleep in the bed with me and Rob, right?

There is a local pool that has a Doggie Dip Day before it opens to the public. Then they have it again after they close to the public but before they close the pool for the winter. We were so excited to get to take the boys swimming since we haven't found a place to do that since we've been here. Bradley LOVES to swim and I know he's missed it. In fact, that's the only time that Bradley will really fetch. Brodie, however, prefers to fetch on land. When he's in the water he prefers to wear his life jacket. It just makes him feel more secure and he swims a lot better with it on. The pool had a high edge in spots and a lot of the dogs were having a hard time jumping out. But Bradley could jump out at the highest point with no trouble. Once when he jumped out people yelled, "Oh my gosh, did you see that dog?" It was funny. I think he had such an easy time because 1) his extremely long legs and 2) there's not an ounce of fat on him. I didn't get any good photos, but I got some good videos.
Here's Bradley jumping in and swimming to Daddy.
Here's Bradley fetching and jumping out at the part that was not very high.
This is Brodie fetching on dry land. Notice he does not let anyone get in his way.

Bradley's never been sick before. Well, maybe he's thrown up the occasional piece of mulch from the yard or bottle top that he's swallowed. But on Wednesday after he'd thrown up 7 times and nothing to show for it except lots of food, I was starting to wonder if I should take him to the vet. But Rob convinced me to hang in there for just a little longer. Bradley was a big baby too. All he wanted to do was lay in my lap. So I took it. I watched lots of t.v. and held my 78 pound baby dog. On Thursday he seemed to be doing better. And Brodie was very helpful. Every time Bradley threw up, Brodie came and got me. He's such a tattle tail! But Bradley did finally throw up the culprit. A big piece of his blanket. Correction. Blanket turned tug-toy. He still felt lousy the rest of the day. He just laid in my lap and I realized he hadn't barked in two days. Now that's really not like Bradley. He's usually all words. Friday morning he played a little and I thought about taking them to school, but after a few minutes of play he passed out and slept most the day. But this morning, Saturday, the mouth of the South was back. I think he feels just fine. So I took them up to the school so he could get in some good play time with his friends. So I know this is gross, but I took pictures of the blanket he had swallowed. It's next to the ball so you can see the size of it. I'm glad that I had waited another day. If I had taken him to the vet, they would have x-rayed him and had him in surgery to remove it. He got it out all on his own though. Of course, I caught him trying to swallow another piece later. So now I'm on a scavenger hunt around the house to find and throw away any loose pieces of blanket or plush toys.

A small town near us is raising money to get their own dog park. Twice a month they host a dog park at the local baseball field and take donations. This time they had it at a different location. It included play equipment for the kids. The first video is of Rob taking Bradley down the slide. The second video is Brodie accidentally going down the slide on his own. He was terrified. But then he went down again with Daddy and it wasn't so bad.

My names is Bradley and I am almost 2 years old. I remember being taken from my mommy and littermates at only 5 weeks old. I went through 3 homes before being orphaned at a vet's office. When I was only 8 weeks old I saw my new Mommy for the first time and it was love at first sight, although Daddy took some convincing. They adopted me but I didn't get to go to my forever home until I was 10 weeks old because I was sick. But once I was home I met my best friend and big brother Brodie. Shhh, don't tell him, but he was a purchased pup. I would like to raise money to help all the doggies (and kitties) out there find their families. It's no fun when you don't have a place to belong. So please help me become El Rey FIDO 2011. If I'm crowned I promise to give everyone I see a big lick on the face. Well, maybe I'll do that anyway.
* To become crowned El Rey Fido IX in April 2011, your dog (and you) must collect more money for the orphaned pets of the San Antonio Humane Society than any other canine-and-human pair. The fundraising deadline is March 25, 2011 at 5 p.m.
**The one dog who garners the highest number of individual contributors (regardless of the dollar amount raised) will get to be on the royal court.

It's cold. So cold. Record temperatures here. In fact, we're having rolling blackouts because the power stations can't handle the demand. The morning show wanted us to post pics on their facebook page of how our pets stay warm. Here's my pics for facebook of Brodie and Bradley waiting for the blackout.
Here are the boys sporting their cold winter gear for their pic. They weren't really wearing this in the house. Bradley's never worn a sweater before. This was Angus's sweater. It barely fit Bradley. I couldn't get it all the way closed.
Brodie's an old pro at cold weather gear. This is the jacket he used to wear to daycare on cold mornings.
This cold and cloudy weather has made Bradley extra groggy. This is his napping couch when he doesn't have a lap to lay in. He prefers a pillow and blanket to a sweater.

We checked out a new place in town. They are the normal boarding, daycare, grooming etc. We are interested in their membership only dog park. It's much closer to our house than the other dog parks. And the public dog parks and disgustingly filthy. It's my blog so I can say it. Crap everywhere! People just don't pick up after their dogs. And who knows what their dog may have. This place, since it is a paid membership, requires vaccinations kept on records, they have staff outside to keep the rules enforced. I like their rules better than the rules at the dog park, which I won't go into here. But it can be difficult to enjoy your visit. Anyway, we just needed a place bigger than our yard to go play ball with Brodie. The park doesn't open until spring but until then they will let you use the small area out front for free. So after our tour we played in that area. They are also the official practice site of the local fly ball teams. So we may check that out sometime.
Then just before we left Bradley drug some algae out of the pond, laid it out nice and neat of the grass. Then promptly laid down on it and began to roll around in what he evidently found to be a very appealing smell. So it was home for a bath.
Bradley goes straight for the little water feature and starts sniffing around.
When Brodie's ball goes in he lets Bradley go in after it. Bradley cautiously checks to see how deep the water is.
Then Brodie finds a new game of dropping the ball in just to get Bradley to go in after it.
Good fetch Bradley!
